We took our team on a game drive at the back of our farm this morning. There was a raging bush fire that came up the side of the mountain on the other side of the fence on Friday night and we wanted to see how far it had burnt. Tintin was asking if all the trees got burnt coz they have no leaves (we weren’t at the burn site yet) and I was explaining to her how deciduous trees lose their leaves in winter.
“Oh” she said “so they just put their arms in the air and close their eyes?”
Something like that my smart girl!
I was never good at maths. I was actually really shit at grasping maths concepts. I almost didn’t pass Grade 7 maths because I couldn’t tell the time. I still can’t tell the time on anything that is not in 12 hour digital format. In Grade 9…I got 9% for maths because while I was still lagging on things like multiplication and long division…they threw letters into the mix to completely lose me. They didn’t find me in maths class again after Std 7.
This evening, Jess showed us that 3 plus 2 is 5 by counting it out on her fingers. And 3 plus 4 is 7; 4 plus 5 is 9 and we went on…now at this stage I’m quite impressed. She’s on the same maths level as me!! So I ask:
What’s 4 plus 7?
Visibly thinking, she shows 4 on her one hand and then says:
It’s not possible. I can’t make 7 on my hand
(same maths level as me)
I laughed and told her that I hope she’s good at art and she drew me a pretty picture! Who needs maths?? Girls make pretty!
I love my smart girls!
